SLS 3D Printers

SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) is one of the most used technologies in 3D printing for large scale printing of high quality handling thousands of prints per week without any interruptions. Mostly SLS printers are professional or industrial printers and their cost usually represents a significant investment.

SLS technology prints 3D object by selectively sintering as it employs a laser to harden and bond small grains of plastic, ceramic, glass, metal (direct metal sintering), or other materials into layers in a 3D dimensional structure. The laser traces the pattern of each cross section of the 3D design onto a bed of powder. After one layer is built, the bed lowers and another layer is built on top of the existing layers. The bed then continues to lower until every layer is built and the whole part is complete. The process most notably discards the need of support material as the product lies in a bed of powder. This specific characteristic allows conserving materials, and it also means that SLS is capable of producing geometries that no other technology can.
